Relationship between platelet P-selectin and severity of acute coronary syndromes

چکیده
Objective Recent studies reveal important roles of platelet P-selectin on progression of atherosclerosis. In the present study, we examine the relation between platelet P-selectin expression and severity of acute coronary syndromes. Methods One hundred and eighty-four consecutive patients with proven or clinically suspected acute coronary syndromes (ACS) were enrolled in the study. Level of P-selectin expression was determined by flow cytometry. Platelet P-selectin level was expressed as the percentage of Pselectin positive platelet. Results The level of P-selectin was higher in patients with a single diseased coronary artery or multiple diseased arteries compared to those with normal coronary arteries. P-selectin expression was significantly and positively correlated with angiographic Gensini score (r=0.323, P=0.029). Multiple regression analyses showed that the association of the percentage of Pselectin–positive platelets with ACS was independent of other clinical factors. Conclusions Platelet P-selectin is associated with severity of acute coronary syndromes in patients with acute coronary syndromes.(J Geriatr Cardiol 2008; 5:146-149 )

Platelet-leukocyte interaction and platelet activation in acute stroke with and without preceding infection.
OBJECTIVE Acute coronary syndromes and ischemic cerebral stroke share similarities regarding elevated platelet activation. In coronary syndromes, the importance of inflammation with platelet-leukocyte interaction has been demonstrated. Recent infection is an established risk factor for ischemic stroke; the role of platelet-leukocyte interaction in these patients had not been investigated. MET...
متن کاملRelationship between Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte Ratio and the Severity of Coronary Artery Disease in Patients Undergoing Cardiac Catheterization
Introduction: Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is considered as an independent predictor of long-term prognosis in the individual patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). This study sought to assess the relationship between NLR and CAD severity in Iranian patients undergoing cardiac catheterization.Material and Methods: This prospective study was conducted on 500 patients with acute cor...
متن کاملIncreased platelet binding to circulating monocytes in acute coronary syndromes.
BACKGROUND Present therapies for acute coronary syndromes aim toward limiting platelet-platelet adhesion and aggregation processes. However, platelet-leukocyte interactions may contribute importantly to disease progression in the arterial wall. Recent studies suggest that prevention of platelet-leukocyte binding via P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1 (PSGL-1) may be beneficial in animal models of...
متن کاملCirculating monocyte-platelet aggregates are a more sensitive marker of in vivo platelet activation than platelet surface P-selectin: studies in baboons, human coronary intervention, and human acute myocardial infarction.
BACKGROUND Platelet surface P-selectin is considered the "gold standard" marker of platelet activation. Degranulated, P-selectin-positive platelets, however, aggregate with leukocytes in vitro and rapidly lose surface P-selectin in vivo. METHODS AND RESULTS Flow cytometric tracking of autologous, biotinylated platelets in baboons enabled us to directly demonstrate for the first time in vivo t...
متن کاملOpposing effects of C-reactive protein isoforms on shear-induced neutrophil-platelet adhesion and neutrophil aggregation in whole blood.
BACKGROUND Plasma C-reactive protein (CRP) level is a powerful predictor of cardiovascular events. However, it is not known whether CRP could affect neutrophil-platelet adhesion and neutrophil aggregation, key events in acute coronary syndromes. Emerging in vitro evidence suggests that some bioactivities of CRP are expressed on loss of the pentameric symmetry, resulting in formation of modified...
